Review:

I bought this based on recommendations of ladies on Naturallycurly.com. I had my doubts.

Activator gel? Huh?

When I used to think of activator gel, visions of Soul Glo would start dancing through my head. I imagined that it would be a greasy mess.  But I tried it and I really liked it. This is by far the best gel I’ve come across that I can buy locally. It does not have the shine that Fantasia IC w/sparkle lites can give me, but my hair actually feels hydrated when I use it.

If you’ll notice, the first two ingredients are water and glycerin. What more could a girl ask for? I didn’t really like the smell (kind of reminds me of an old man), but it didn’t linger once it was in my hair and it wasn’t very strong to begin with.

I’ve used this on a wash n go, fingercoils,  and twists. I prefer it more for the wash n go and fingercoils. The twists felt a bit greasy and gummy to me afterward, even though I tried to be  light with it.

Will I buy this again? Maybe.  I am trying to use more natural products, but if I’m in a pinch financially, this will fit the bill.

Remember: Long term use of gel is not always healthy for the hair.

I started using this gel last week. I absolutely love it and will continue to include it in my hair routine.

Funny story. I have locs (4years almost) and I had been hearing about the benefits of glycerin far as moisture. So I ordered my glycerin and some aloe. Made me a spritz from it. Added some oil. My hair was SO soft, but the feel was so familiar… Took me about 2 mins to realize I had made 100% natural LongAid. I had to laugh about that one. :)

What you guys said is true. When I started hearing about activator gel i just thought ‘jheri curl’ instantly. I didn’t even use it when i had texturized hair. Now that i have starter locs and can’t really use conditioner, I have begun to put a small amount on my hair after a wash and it is amazing that I was avoiding it so long. I now have soft fluffy baby locs. It smells like baby powder to me.

I have tried this gel, and it makes my hair gooey and takes the curl definition out. Does that happen with this gel for anyone else. I think my hair doesn’t like glycerin. But Fantasia and Eco Styler Gel work perfectly for me.

I use LA Curl Activator Gel and yes it can be greasy when applied so don’t use alot but once it drys…it left my hair VERY MOISTURIZED and there was no greasey feeling to my hair…I love it.
