From the Denman Website:
Denman Classic Styling brushes are available in a variety of sizes to suit all hair lengths and types. The famous Denman anti-static rubber pad provides maximum grip and control during blowdrying for smoothing, shaping and polishing the hair.
The Denman brush is a holy grail product for a lot of naturals. Many with a curl pattern claim that, along with a bit of gel, their curls pop like never before. I ran out and got this brush when I read about it.
It did something to my hair, but my curls did not “pop”. It seemed to have different effects on my hair depending on what part I was using it on. It definitly smooshed/smoothed things together on my finer hair in the front, but in the back it seemed to separate all of those coffee stirrer sized coils I have back there into a gazillion little pieces.
So after using it a few times for styling, I gave up on it. I picked it up again one day when I couldn’t find my wide toothed comb for a detangling session.
It works great as a detangler. However, I advise anyone using this to be careful when using this for detanginling. Go slow, brush only in sections, use a lot of conditioner. I love my denman now, but it stays in the shower and far away from the styling products.
But that’s just me. It’s certainly worked for a lot of ladies to enhance pretty curlies and coilies.
There are many different types. I use the D4 that is pictured above. It seems to be the most popular amongst naturals.
The only really annoying thing about this brush is that the bristles seemed to be anchored onto a sliding pad that, with enough force, slides out of place on occasion. This doesn’t happen often, but it’s a pain when it does. The Denman is definitly one of my staples. I probably alternate between it and the wide toothed comb. It’s really great at getting rid of shed hairs that cause tangles and knots.

Another piece of advice (actually, a must) for detangling is to start at the ends, whether using a brush or comb.
oo wow. i hope it works on me for slicking my hair back into a ponytail, bun and puff. i just bought one, but my hair is only 3 inches long, so i don’t know when i should start using it regularly.

Hi! I found the site searching for disney fairies and came across this wonderful blog. I wished I had came across the site 5 years ago, before I relaxed my daughters hair and my own. I have now realized I had made the BIGGESST mistake EVER. My daughters hair was extremely, extremely THICK but now their hair is EXTREMELY thin, so thin I could see their scalp. After every shampoo, combing or styling, hair continued to shed (not your normal shedding). We have decided to go back natural but my question is, “Is it POSSIBLE for our hair to be healthy again and the thickness to return? We have tried everything during the relaxer period, now I NEED HELP for our natural hair. What are the best products including home remedies. My dauhgters hair means the world to me and I regret ever destroying their hair and the texture, Gods knows I do. Please give me the BEST advice to save our hair. To the young lady who has established this site PLEASE, PLEASE reply or who have the same desire I have for healthy hair . Tears has begun to roll down my cheeks just thinking about what I have done. I pray before and after I touch my daughters hair, for their hair not to shed. We have been to hair stylist looking for the ONE who specializes in HEALTHY HAIR not just STYLES and its been like searching for a needle in a hay stack. Their relaxer was BOTANICAL. A box relaxer for which the stylist stated it was the best for them. HELP!
A mother’s cry!
I have been using the brush for about a year now and I must say, it’s an amazing brush! For those of you are having trouble with the brush, I suggest you wet your hair and put a lot of conditioner in it as well. Also, leave the conditioner in you hair and then brush it with the Denman brush. After your curls are define then let it dry and the use your fingers to spread out the curls if you feel they are too tight once your hair is semi dry.
wow..people. there is no need for the exclamation points or capital letters. its not an emergency sweetie.. hair like fingernails and eyelashes and eyebrows grow. If they fall out others will fill its place with time and proper care. your hair shall persevier..as for me. I just bc’d today..may 1st.. it being special because it is my senior prom…I go to an all caucasian school so being one of the few black girls there i always believed that i should be an A+ model for good hair. Well I’ve always wanted curly curly hair so as i stretched my perms i noticed my hair was growing faster..then I ran into the miss jessies naturally curly challenge. knowing me. I never refuse a challenge. so from december 09 until may 2010 i transitioned. I can rock a fade..so my mom says since i have the head for it. I was actually excited when I bc’d my own hair…like cant take it back..and all this hardwork will be paid back in the future. no regrets.. I’m using your site to help me with this natural hair life long experiance. thank you so much for creating a site that targets those who are new to this thing. Now i have something else to add to my two binders worth of notes on natural hair skin and body care. Thank you.
