Twist out done with shea butter/olive oil mixture

Here’s proof you don’t necessarily need expensive products to get good styling results. The above picture is the current twist out I’m sporting. I was missing my shea butter, so I did some twists last week using:

  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)
  • 1/2 tsp honey
  • peppermint and lavender essential oils

I warmed the shea butter in the microwave just to soften it. Next I got out the trust old hand blender to make the butter creamy as I slowly added EVOO to thin it out a bit (both in consistency and smell). Once that was done to my satisfaction, I added the honey.

I was a little nervous about the honey since I’ve used in my conditioners before, but never left it in my hair.It turned out well though.

I added my few drops of essential oils and I was done. My twists turned out great ( I neglected to get a picture). They felt a little hard the night I did them, but that next morning they were super soft and moisturized.

A little honey in twist products, keep them shiny and moist, not good on hold though. Aloe vera is good for hold. Looks good though.

Angel, I actually know of some people who love honey as a styler and some who hate it. I think I will experiment more with it as a styler, but I liked the result this time.

Did you use this mixture to seal your ends only or did you use it on the entire twist itself?… I can only use it on my ends, otherwise it’ll weigh down my hair.

Very nice. I used the honey, olive oil, water mixture for styling a few times and it makes my hair puffy.
