Grow it! My Review

in Hair and Beauty Book Reviews

Chicoro, the author of Grow it: How to Grow Afro-textured Hair to Maximum Lengths in the Shortest Time, did an interview for NewlyNatural a few months ago. I’ve read the book and am finally putting my review up. So here goes :)

It’s a short read. It’s simple and straight to the point. You get the information you need without having to wade through a lot of product endorsement and fluff.

It’s technical. She goes into indepth detail on the science of hair, but not so much that it’s over your head.

She breaks it down. The conditioning, detangling, cleansing, moisturizing, all very well explained. Some of the detangling section really had surprising information when I read it.

General upbeat attitude. Chicoro really ought to be a motivational speaker. Something about the way she writes really made smile, especially when reading about her own hair journey.

Perfect for the newbie. If you are brand new to the hair care scene, this is the book you need to get. A lot of what Chicoro mentions were things that I knew or practice myself already, but they are good points. She uses and explains alot of terminology that you will often see on hair care forums/sites. If you are a baby natural or transitioner, then it would behoove you to read this book for your own sanity.

I really wish I’d had this book when I first started out, it would’ve saved me a lot of trouble.

The only comlaint that I have about the book is that there are not a whole lot of pictures, but you can see plenty at her fotki.

Chicoro also has a blog: Beautify Bit by Bit. Read and learn ya’ll. The proof is in the pudding!
