Dee: What do you do when women come up to you and ask you I like your hair is it real? That embarrasses me and I do not like it. What do I say everyone is looking at me waiting for a response. I normally jump to another subject. I personally think It is rude and disrespectful. Please help me with a response.
Kcurly: Well, I get asked this quite a bit, though I don’t know why. It’s usually when I’m wearing twists. I guess they think I’m wearing kinky twists, I dunno, but my hair is not down my back like I usually see, so I don’t see what the confusion is.
Dee, just say no and keep moving. There’s no reason to be embarrassed. If anything, they should be the ones embarrassed. If you want to think about it differently, you can take it as a compliment instead of an insult. They thought your hair looked so good, they didn’t think it was real.
Now I did have one lady that would ask me every time I wore a different set of twists if they were real. I finally told her that I didn’t wear weave or extensions, but the day that I did, she would be the first one to know so she did not need to ask me anymore. I said this all in a joking tone, but she hasn’t asked me since. I think I got my point across.
