Grapeseed oil

So I’ve said that I’m not a big oil person, but I do have some oil favorites. Grapeseed oil is one of the only oils that I will use direcly on my hair and not wash out. Here’s a little history on grapeseed oil:

  • Made from the pressed seeds of various grapes
  • Used for salad dressings, marinades, deep frying, flavored oils, baking, massage oil, sunburn repair lotion, hair products, body hygiene creams, lip balm and hand creams
  • Has lower oil content when compared to oil from nuts
  • May reduce or prevent the damage of free radicals if applied to the skin (lessening the appearance of aging)
  • Is relatively cheap and can be blended with other carrier and essential oils easily
  • Has no known contraindications
  • Very light and nearly colorless

I like grapeseed oil for my scalp. Although I love olive oil for my oil rinses, I would never use it on my hair when not washing it out because it is heavy. Grapeseed oil is very light and the few times that I’ve done sealing, it’s the oil I use.

It’s also wonderful on the skin.  I sometimes will use it to shave my legs! I wash them first with whatever soap I’m using, rinse well, apply the oil and then shave away. My legs are left so soft! Something else I do with it is add it to conditioners or castile soap.

You can find it pretty easily in most areas. Even in the sticks, they still sell it at the Piggly Wiggly :)
