I was actually thinking of getting this as I totally thought that I wouldn't have to blow dry my hair first. No such luck for us huh?! I think I may go with the GHD instead.

Melanie, there is always the possibility of heat damage whenever you use a flat iron or blow dryer or any other direct heat. May I ask why you don't want it curly? maybe you could try some other styles like rollersetting instead of using heat so often. Your hair is probably heat damaged already and that's why it doesnt look the same.

Hello ! I think im getting it for christmas since i asked for it , but I was wondering if it damages the hair ? I never leave my hair curly.. ive been straightening my hair for about 3 years.. big mistake I know . I used to have really nice bouncy curls but not anymore now my hair is horrible when its curly so i ALWAYS straighten it. I really dont know what to do there is no way im leaving it curly.. also because its really short and i have a round face and I just look absolutly horrible. So I thought maybe the steamburst might help? Would it ? :( Or if anyone knows anything I could do ... im desperate.

this hair straightener is amazing laquita. it is definitely worth the money. the steam burst technology is so gentle on your hair as long as u keep it more than 3 inches away from your scalp. i recommend,, for coarser hair, to use the plate with the detangling pins before you go to sleep, and in the morning just go over your entire head with the flat plate quickly. its really , and smooths hair flawlessly. whether blending into extensions by curling it, or simply straightening it, your hair will not take nearly as much damage as wiht a ordinary straightener.

I decided on the Maxiglide because of the steamburst. I wasn't looking to really straighten my hair, I really just wanted to see how bad my breakage from earlier this year really was. My is just so coily, that banding really didn't help. I wanted to know what I was working with before getting a trim.

I was terrified and didn't go over the 5 setting. I doubt I will straighten again any time soon (won't say I won't eve again though)...it was just too traumatizing wondering if I'd damage my texture. But I am glad I decided on this flat iron.

You are correct, anyone deciding to use heat should always proceed with caution.

My friend gave me a maxiglide 2 weeks ago.
I have not flatironed at all since becoming newly natural. as a matter of fact, I don't think I've flatironed since January. Hmmm, I guess that's good.

I do want to try the maxiglide soon though. My Chi gets way too hot and doesn't have a temperature control at all.

I used to use the Maxiglide when I had relaxed hair. It worked even when I deeply in need of a touch up. Im scared to use heat on my curls now...And I think it gets way too hot for me.

Interesting - I'm actually shopping for a flat iron for my stepdaughter's hair. I'll have to look into this one. Thanks for sharing.
