Today’s Hair

in Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow (Random Hair Thoughts)

This is second day hair from a wash n go I did with Suave Coconut, followed by Abba Nourishing, and then KCCC.  I was sent some Jane Carter Solution products (reviews incoming throughout the month) to try out and I used a bit this morning to refresh my curls. Second day hair is not a common thing for me when doing wash n go’s, so I was pretty happy.

Second Day Hair

Also had an interesting comment yesterday at work on the elevator. A lady gets on it with me and says “Daaang, is all that your hair?”

I smile and say “Yep”

She says “You know if you permed that, it would be down to here” She touches the middle of my back and then adds “You should perm it”

My reply, as I was walking off the elevator  “Hmm, no I can get it straight without a perm, but I like it like this, bye”

She actually starting walking with me off the elevator, I guess to give me more “advice” but she realized she had gotten off on the wrong floor LOL!

First, I don’t like strangers touching me. Second, my hair would so not be MBL! I mean, my shrinkage is bad, but dang! Third, I WANTED to say “Do you think I worked this hard to grow this just to put that stuff back in and pretty much be back where I was??” And then I had to pray because I started thinking bad things about her hair, which I won’t post here. ;)

Anyway, nothing else today ladies, Happy Sunday, I’m off to work!

Hey there.

How about something similar happened to me on Friday.

My son (9) and I met my BEST FRIEND and her daughter (12) for dinner.

I hadn’t seen them in months so I’ve gain at least a couple of innches or more since seeing them.

I said “well my hair grew back”.

Her mom says “I like it like that”.

Daughter says “You should perm it”.

I said “yeah right, do you think I’ve grown my hair out for a little over a year to turn around and perm it again?”

LOL

People don’t understand the mental and physical journey that we’ve gone through and they definitely don’t understand the love that we’ve developed for out beautiful natural locks after all the trauma we’ve put them through.

Happy Sunday.

Hate you have to work today.

seeing and hearing about ppl like this makes me all-the-more grateful that Im no longer ignorant to what being “real” really is, being myself (finally), and appreciating who I am. Even better, Im still learning. Most of all, is that I do have sistas (like you) who are so very supportive and giving and during my “permed days” and didnt know that existed. I feel bad/sorry for those who still aren’t trying to open their minds. Many will come around, like I did, and too many others will still be left in the dark. Unfortunately it will be by choice. Sometimes all you can do is pray for em. I sure do… Im so happy to be natural! :)

Wow. I cannot believe how a total stranger can tell you about your hair and how brainwashed she is. It is amazing when I tell people that I am not getting relaxers anymore and they look at me like I said I was planning on killing baby kittens! The look of concern and the “why?!?” expression. I mean, really. I have had people tell me that the relax saved their life and they will never get rid of it. Hmm, ok. I suppose that is your choice but don’t fault me b/c I made my own. Wow. I just vented there, didn’t I? LOL!

Hi KCurly! I think you handled that very well.
Congrats on your second day hair! Very pretty.

I think sometimes when people make those comments they didn’t think at all. To them (and to me in the past) it was as though you are supposed to relax your hair. If you go a while without doing it, that is just a break and you are supposed to go back eventually. They are just so used to it. To them the goal of all women should be to have long straight hair and they think every woman would look better with long straight hair. Its sad really. Those people have probably never thought about going natural in their lives. Maybe one day they will see the light. I did so maybe they can too.

I also had a similar comment when telling a friend I was going natural, she responded with “oh ok so you’re just going to flat iron it everyday”? I was like NO! What’s the point of growing the beautiful naps just to force heat on them constantly?

Thanks but no thanks! :-)

Dang, I was waiting for you to tell us what words you flung her direction after that.

I guess I need to go pray too. LOL
