Dayana Pires
Dayana Pires is a Brazilian model. She’s one of my hair idols because she’s worked with LOT of different colors, doesn’t straighten her hair for a lot of shots. While most models only wear curly hair for “wild and ethnic” shoots, she wears her wash-n-go/fro when she’s doing glamours AND athletic and we have similar hair textures.
I’m a firm believer in the idea that curly hair (especially BIG HAIR (all caps necessary)) is really glamours, so seeing someone in a satin party dress gives me photographic evidence to all the people who INSIST I have to have my hair “done” before going somewhere. I love hair color, I think it’s a really cool way to change up your look without really “changing” much. I don’t see many women with long hair in a similar texture as mine, I usually see it looser or curlier. It gives me hope the “one day” my hair could be that long…If I don’t get scissor happy first!
Janelle Monae
Janelle Monae is a Grammy Award-nominated American urban/alternative singer/songwriter/performer. I LOVE updos. If I had enough hair, I’d wear an elaborate and ridiculous updo EVERY DAY. Janelle has mastered a front roll (I don’t know what it’s called–but it’s great!) and it suits her perfectly.
Janelle has this crazy/cool thing going on and her hair suits her personality PERFECTLY. Her hair wraps up her entire performer package and makes her stand out. While this isn’t hair related, I like the fact she’s making her own sound in her own way (a futuristic soap opera!) instead of following what sells/what doesn’t sell. Her lyrics have a lot of power and meaning behind them:

Imani Coppola
Imani Coppola is an American singer/song writer, violinist and 1/2 of Little Jackie. Honestly, I never heard about her until I came across “I believe the world should revolve around me” by Little Jackie and I COULDN’t STOP STARING at her beautiful blown-out, picked out fro. I like her lyrics for being so female/self-positive:

I am an endangered species
This kind of flower don’t grow on Earth
Just lettin’ you know for what it’s worth

Like Monae, her hair fits her quirky persona. I rank her HIGHER than Monae because she managed to work some really cool color in her hair, she plays with updos but prefers what looks like a wash-n-go or a picked out look AND wears make-up that stands out against her bold hair. Again, you don’t see many performers rocking BIG HAIR with “loud” makeup so it always makes me happy to see one who can do it. Especially when someone like me loves bold eye colors. ^_^

Great picks! I’ve enjoyed reading about all of them and admiring their photos–winner and runners-up. I probably would not have known about these women otherwise. Kcurly, hope you do this again at some point.
