Ok Kcurly this is my issue. You know I’m transitioning and I’m in my 6th month of being relaxer free. I have a long way to go though because my hair is shoulder length. I would just BC but I promised my DH I wouldn’t do that (ugh, why did I do that). So I’m trying to lose weight and I need to start working out along with eating right, but this HAIR!!! I don’t know what to do. I sweat VERY badly, especially in my head. I mean if I have a straw set I lose my curls, and if I have it flat ironed it poofs. I’m not a hair person, so I have to pay for my hair to be done, and I just feel like I’m wasting money for my style to last a day, so therefore I don’t workout. I have a scalp condition, so I can’t do braids or weaves. I really just want to cut it cause I want to get my workout on so I can be fine and healthy, but I also want to keep peace in my home. What to do, what to do??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Now, on on to your problem. I also sweat badly at the roots, so my flat ironing jobs during transition would usually go awry, though headbands and scarfs were helpful in hiding my puffy roots. Some of the straight naturals on LHCF have had good results with putting their hair in a high ponytail when working out.
I suggest you start doing twist outs and braid outs. I did twists outs when I was transitioning and during that time I was heavily starting my running regimen. This seemed to work well, though I would usually have to end up putting my hair in a messy bun right before wash day.
Twist outs are easy-peasy to do yourself and (for me) hid the texture difference well even when the roots puffed up. During your workout, it may help to retwist with 4-8 large twists (as well as at night) and then tie a cotton scarf to catch some of the sweat.
Another option is cornrows, if you can do those or find someone to do them. I don’t try to encourage this, but if all else fails, a wig might also be helpful for those days when you’re having a bad hair day. Hair is important, but our health comes first. I’m glad you’re trying to get your working out down. However, I suggest you start now rather then when you’ve found a good routine. Believe me, I know how easy it is to put off changes in your life. you want my honest opinion?? CUT IT OFF!! one of the benefits of bein natural (for me) is the fact u dont have to worry about sleeping pretty, humidity, sweating and rain! i just dnt have the patience of transitioning then again i also dnt have a husband. my boyfriend had snyde remarks in ref to my hair but i put my hand out for him to fund me going to the salon to keep my hair how he wanted and got no response! uh…yea thats what i thought!
LOL! but Kisha, I can’t use that as a defense cause he does pay for my hair to be done. I need something else girl.
How about telling him that your hair is hindering your workout and asking him if he’d prefer long hair or a banging body?
