So here are my weight loss update pictures. This year I think I’ve lost about 10-13 pounds. Not a big deal , I suppose, but better than gaining or not losing at all. I’ve also gained muscle tone and am probably more physically fit than I have ever been.
I am a bit ashamed to report that I did not complete my half marathon that was scheduled this past Saturday. I had been sick and missed a lot of runs, along with a few other excuses I won’t go into. The point is that I did not do it. It’s not often that I set my eyes on a race and don’t do it.
Hair related: I’m upset that I didn’t get to wear my newest Tomoka’s Twist that the owner Carmen was kind enough to send to me just for my race. (Thank you!) I will wear it, this I promise you!

In other health related news, I had an appointment with my gyno yesterday and she was very happy with my weight loss since last year. She’s a big proponent of losing weight slowly. She says that the slower one loses weight, the more likely one is to keep it off.
This is true, I’ve read it time and time again. Therefore, I am trying to look at my slower weight loss in a more positive light.
Here’s something I’d like to get everyone’s input on…I am thinking about starting a weight loss/fitness/racing blog. I would love to know if there’d be any interest in it.
Triathlon season is starting up in a few months and I’d like to do a few in addition to more runs. I don’t want to overwhelm Newly Natural with fitness posts, though I know that many of you enjoy the combination. That’s not to say that I would never have health/fitness related posts on NN since hair care often ties into fitness.
If you don’t want to comment, you can leave an anonymous post or email me at kcurly@newlynatural.com. I always appreciate honesty, even if it’s not something I agree with.
Thanks for reading! I’ve got some more giveaways coming up in the next few weeks, stay tuned!

My first thought was “WOW”! Your efforts have really paid off and I’m proud of you (for what that’s worth). You even stand straighter. Thanks for motivating me and making the point about slow weight loss. My weight is creeping up (and I don’t even have kids) and I want to get on track before it’s a serious problem. I’m not obsessive about it (and I don’t want to be) but I must do something. Each story I read about, including yours, lets me know that I can — and I must.
You look great! I like reading on your blog about weight loss and I have been thinking of dedicating a blog to my weight loss also but my readers don’t mind me throwing in some post here and there. I think it is a good idea because it will make your more aware of what your are doing blogging about to accomplishments everyday or every so many days. Let us know as soon as it is up and running. I have not seen any really good exercise blogs so far so this would be good. I love to read about healthy eatting, exercise and the like. Take care : )
CONGRATS TO YOU! I would absolutely love a fitness/weight loss blog to follow. I am always especially interested in your updates about your marathons etc. I’m toying with the idea of doing a triathalon next August — the time is ticking away so I really should start training. I say go for it! Thanks for the inspiration
I would love to read a weight loss/fitness blog from you. Recently I have been looking for blogs that will encourage me to loss these unwanted pounds
I am very interested in getting info on running and motivation to exercise as well.
I’m totally interested in the weightloss/fitness/racing blog. It’s my SECRET desire to run a marathon… half/mini/SOMETHING and I think it would help
BTW> dont feel TOO bad about not doing the race. Instead let it inspire you to train even harder for the NEXT race
i probably should pay more attention to you fitness posts but i do sometimes just skim over them and not really read them. however, they do not seem out of place because this blog is about you and i like taking a peek into your cool little world. your progress has been fantastic! you look phenomenal! keep up the good work.
Wow!!! You look amazing!!! It’s so hard to start a regimen and keep it up, and that alone is a phenomenal task. You’re still a winner. You encouraged me to work on maintaining and lowering my own weight.
I think that would be awesome if you start a fitness blog! I just recently (2 days ago) put kinky twists in my hair and now I can dedicate keep my focus on fitness because I am also training for a half marathon! So I would be a reader of your fitness blog. Also I want to congratulate you on losing the weight and keeping off and always having goals to look forward too.
WOW! You look phenomenal! You may have only lost 10-13 pounds, but you have an entirely new body. Congratulations on your success. Your hard work has surely paid off. I would love to read a fitness blog. I love reading Newly Natural, but I usually come here for product info and would probably skip over the fitness posts. Like Bridget, I want info on how to start running and keep up the motivation.
Congrats on your weight loss! You look great!
I love it when you incorporate weight/fitness/racing stuff onto the site, but I understand that you might want to make a separate site for all of that. As a fellow runner, I would DEFINITELY visit a fitness blog if you decided to go that route!
Good luck on whatever you decide to do!
I’m aiming to runn a half marathon sometime in my life so I would definitely follow your fitness/weightloss blog. Congratulations! You’re so inspiring =)
congrats on your healthy routine.
i too am trying to lose weight and would love to read a blog about fitness, motivation, etc.
keep up the good work.
congrats on your great progess! reading your posts about running/swimming/biking has been a great inspiration to myself, and my husband, and we would both loooove to see more posts about fitness routines or regimens. keep up the good work
I think you have shown fantastic progress. It’s great that you’re not focusing too much on the “losing weight” bit as much as you’re on being healthy and having fun with your new fitness lifestyle.
I tend to notice that as I slim down, I gain a bit of weight on the scale, because it’s not about losing “weight” it’s about losing fat. Muscles weigh more than fat, so relying on the scales and the amount of pounds lost isn’t the way to go. You want to lose fat by gaining and strengthening your muscles. Look at your pics, that the best way to determine your success, and you have been very successful!
You really look terrific! It looks like you lost more than 10-13 lbs, which means that just a little bit of weight loss can have a significant impact on your appearance. Yay! You’ve re-inspired me. I really want to do a half-marathon, but haven’t started training for it… maybe now I will. I have been reading your blog ever since I found out you had one through NaturallyCurly.com. I would definitely add your fitness blog to my Google reader! Keep up the good work.
Go K! You look great.. and your gyno is right. The quicker you lose it the quicker it will come back. I’ve been “losing weight” now since probably 2003 (I’m down to 155 with a 33 inch waist, but in 2003 I topped out at 199 with a 38″ waist- half my height was in my waist..lol I’m 5’3″!), and while I did have a 15 lb. gain a year ago, I have been able to take that back off.
This is a lifelong thing, so why rush.. take your time, and keep doing things that keep you motivated and fit for years to come. I started out as a jogger/runner, and now a few years later I’m doing dance classes and judo/jujitsu. Whatever you do, just stay active even if it’s just walking once you get to your goal size.
Keep up the good work, lady.. we’re cheering you on out here.
Been lurking on your blog for a long while….but wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss! Keep it up.
I’d be interested in reading your fitness blog….I swim and run (actually found you looking for tips on swimming with natural hair earlier this year) so I would be keen to follow your triathlon training progress.
I’m a runner (used to do x-country/track), have done 5,10,21K races. So I’m happy to offer advice as I get back into shape myself.
Congratulations! You look fantastic. So proud of your efforts!
Do start the fitness/weight loss/racing blog. I have been trying to get my hubby to start one, but blogging is my thing, not his. I will follow it, and I am even volunteering hubby to do a guest post for you every once in a while
YOU LOOK AMAZING!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Congrats on all yoru accomplishments so far! You should be very, very proud. And your gyno is absolutely right on the slow weight loss and the maintenance.
My blog is a mish-mash of everything, and I thought about mvoing my running/fitness posts to a separate area. I read several running blogs and they are all inspiring. For right now, I’m just keeping everything on one blog. But since your blog is focused on natural hair, I can see how you’d want to have it separate. I’d read it either way.
I just did my first half marathon on 12/12. I blogged about it the other day. The great thing about the city-wide road races is that when spring hits, there will be tons of them. ING sponsors a half marathon in ATL in March. So, no matter the reason for missing this one, keep up your training – there will be another one that you can sign up for. Stay encouraged!
Thank you all so much for your warm words. I don’t know how I can feel so much emotion for people I’ve never met, but I really do consider you all my friends. Thanks for peeking into my life every now and then.
I will be starting the blog, I’m working on it now. When it goes live, I’ll post it here.
Chiming in kinda late. You’ve made stellar progress.! You’re an inspiration.
Congratulations on your weight loss!!! You look so good!!! I started my weight loss journey this year. I’ve lost 15 pounds since April 2009. I am in maintenance mode right now but I would like to lose about 5 more pounds. It would put me back at what I like to call “Prebaby Fine.” That was the name of my mission “Prebaby Fine in 2009″ LOL!!!
During my pregnancy I gained 40 pounds. I nursed my son for 6 months and lost all the weight but no one told me when you decided to stop nursing you need to start exercising to keep the weight off. So I gained 20 pounds after I stopped nursing. Not a good look when you child is over a year old and you are still calling it baby fat.
I would definitely follow your fitness blog because I LOVE KCurly!!! (no homo) I am also interested in doing races. I am not a runner but I sure can speed walk. LOL!!
You look so good, congrats!
you look GOOD girl! keep up the good work. i agree with the fitness blog and i’d love to take part in it. since goin natural im workin on eating right and gettin in the habit of exercise. you keep me motivated!
Congrats and I should have done ‘Sexy Diva’. You’re encouraging me!
You look amazing!!! I would sign up for your fitness blog. I need to lose a few pounds and get back into the gym. It’ll give me some much needed motivation. Congratulations!!
you look absolutely fantastic! i enjoy reading your fitness posts because i’ve become serious about exercising over the last few months. i used to go through phases where i would exercise regularly for a few weeks, then get lazy and take a few weeks off. since mid-July i’ve been working out at least 5 days a week. i’ve lost 15 lbs so far, which may not seem like much in 6 months time, but i’m very proud of myself. what keeps me going is not so much the weight i’ve lost, but the muscle definition and physical endurance i’ve gained. i don’t want to lose the progress i’ve worked so hard to build, so i keep pushing along. i’m very much looking forward to your new blog. keep up the good work!!
WOW!!! Girl I am SUPER proud of YOU!!!! YOU DID IT!!! I have ALWAYS been inspired by your hair and now by your healty and tremendous weight loss, u r so dedicated and disiplined. As always, thank u 4 mantaining this site, without it I would have relapsed and relaxed 10months ago! Thank u. Also, thank u 4 sharing my post, smoking vs. natural hair which is more deadly and offensive, u r the best.
Congratulations on your weight loss. I can’t wait to read your weight loss blog.
I love your blog. Ive been following it for awhile since I made the decision to transition. I have recently been throwing the idea around of running a half marathon (thanks to a friend and “biggest loser”) and this was the first site I thought of to get information and inspiration. Ive never really run before, so I dont know where to start but I know it can be done. I would love to read a blog written about fitness, and/or you could incorporate more post on this site about runnning….or even create a seperate forum.
