Today’s Straight Hair

in Straight Natural Styling

Due to being extremely tired, I decided to blowdry all of my hair and then flat iron it the next day. I just wore the blowdried hair in a bun. Since I didn’t blow dry on high, leaving it for a day also allowed it to totally dry (some of my roots were still a little damp).

Here’s what I did:

  • Shampoo’d since I was experiencing some buildup
  • DC’d with Giovanni Smooth as Silk for one hour
  • Rinsed, then applied Curls Lavish Moisturizer and Fantasia Heat Protectant to each section before blow drying
  • Applied a bit of JC Nourish and Shine to my ends, put hair in a bun
  • The next day, I flat ironed with Maxiglide (on 8, no teeth plates or steam) with a little coconut oil

I know I say this everytime I straighten, but this is probably the best job I’ve done.

Here are the blowdried pics (My son’s reaction: “Mama, Your Hair is BIG!”):

After flat ironing:

In a bun:

Length Shot

I think I’ve hit Bra Strap Length, but I have a short torso.

Further goals:

  • I’d like to be full BSL and I’ll probably stop at that.
  • I have a lot of layers, I may grow those out, I’m not sure.
  • Try more styles: Cornrowing and rollersetting are big on my list

It’s been a good 2 years. I can’t believe it’s been that long since I cut my hair off and sat crying on my bathroom floor. Now my hair is probably the longest it’s been in my adult life.

I am pretty sure this will be the last time I straighten for awhile. With the pregnancy, I want to keep everything as simple as possible, so twists will be my most likely option.

Looks good! That seems like wonderful growth for 2 years. I’m only 8 months from my latest BC, and I look forward to doing a big blow out at the one-year mark.

First congrat on the pregnancy .Next your hair is gorgeous straight or twist. What advice can you give me I did my bc in September 2009,and now 7 months later my hair length is and 4inches in front and 4 1/2 in the back what can i do to grow my hair i set a goal of 8 inch at my 1 year mark i dont think i can do that in a couple months.

Halimah, how long was your hair to begin with? Most people grow 0.5 inches of hair every month. That is average, some may do more or less than that. So, in a year, most people can expect roughly 6 inches of growth. So, no, it’s unlikely that you’ll get 4 more inches in 5 months, more like 2-2.5.

Your hair looks great! I can’t believe it grew so long in two years. You are most definitely my hair idol. I big chopped 2 months ago after a year of transitioning so I have some hair. I haven’t really measured it though. It really goes to show how versatile natural hair is

I wish you an easy-going pregnancy :)

Can I please just have about 10″ of your hair. You have
about 60 beautiful inches left. It’s going to be down
to your waist by the time the baby gets here. Have a
nice weekend and rest!

Your hair had grown like weeds girl. And it is so healthy and beautiful. Congratulations on the pregnancy. Watch out, your hair is REALLY going to flourish if you are taking those prenatal vitamins.;^)

Wow almost bra strap length at 2 years post bc? That is Amazing! Your hair looks like you’ve been growing it out for atleast 4 or 5 years. Beautiful, and congrats on the baby, I didn’t know you were expecting.

Beautiful! And congrats on your pregnancy – it would be cool if you did a pregnancy blog, health, products, shopping, introducing a new baby to your son etc. I’d read it!

I sent some pics of my hair to your email. I love your hair. It’s amazing how much my own hair has grown w/o a perm. I only permed my hiar about every 4 months (back when). It was healthy, but just didn’t grow. Now it’s longer then it was when I was a kid! I will never get another perm in my life and I will go Camille Cosby when I start graying or looking my age. It’s Jazzy!

You know what’s funny? I was googling things yesterday and saw one of your pictures, you had very little hair at the time and I was like Wow! Is that her? This is because I saw these pictures last week of your blow out (I actually posted the link in the CN forum for someone) you have had amazing growth! Congrats on being 2 years natural. :)
