Afro Sheen…and the Dirty Bird??

You think you have it bad as a natural today with your single strand knots and unsupportive relaxed friends and family? Well, this commercial shows the true struggles of naturals a few decades ago. First, please view this video.

Apparently in the 70s, not only did one have to contend with the effects of racial unrest, the Vietnam War, and oil crisis, but you also had to look out for a huge white bird that went around jacking up freshly picked ‘fros.

So the next time you can’t find the right product for your twists, just think about the struggle of the 1970s afro bird attacks and stay strong. That bird was not playing around, my friends.

omg, this is hilarious! with all the petroleum and mineral oil in those products it’s a wonder any of us have any hair left on our heads! in fact, many of us don’t anymore! lol~ thanks so much for the trip down memory lane! :)

I have fond memories of those days & those commercials. I had a BAA just like the one in the video & used to use Afro Sheen,VO5,Perm Repair, & Fermodyl 07. Those were some great days…, we had so much hair pride! Kinkycurls were DA BOMB back then Even the curly headed white kids I was in college with were growing ‘fros. My Jewish pals called theirs “Jewfros”. All we needed were QhemetBiologics,Carol’s Daughter,CURLS, KinkyCurly, etc & we’d have been set for life. Our afros did grow tho, despite the petrolatum, sulfates, & mineral oil.

“huge white bird that went around jacking up freshly picked ‘fros” LOL!! Thanks for the giggle Kcurly. I needed that. We have come a long way in the product department and I guess I should count my blessings.

This was very funny to watch because my husband mentioned these products the other day…he said I don’t think the ladies back then were reading labels and their hair looked just fine…I have to share this with him…thanks
