Great site- love the way you're giving a platform to share stories. Writing my transition story has been on my "to do" list for a long time. I'd love to do it for this site!

I have been without a relaxer for over a year now. I was tired of the relaxers, they were thinning my hair and I just didn't feel I needed it. I have been going to Domincan stylists for a few years and whether my hair was relaxed or not, it seemed to look great after being heat styled. After about 5 months with no relaxer, my hair was little past shoulder length and in great shape. The six through year mark has been horrible. I have had lots of split ends, extreme dryness, lots of shedding. I have had to consistently get trims and have lost over 4 inches of length. I have been so depressed about it. For normal styling I use carol's daughter shampoo and conditioner but they aren't helping with the dryness so I am going to try coconut oil and salerm products. Every two weeks I go to dominican salon where they was, roller set and then blow dry the roots straight. My hair still look relatively the same although since it is short I notice it doesn't fall exactly the same. I am on a mission to get the 4 inches back by the end of the year. I plan to buy some B complex vitamins and drink protein shakes to speed up the growth rate. I have been taking gnc hair skin and nails vitamins but I'm not sure if they are really helping because of all the trims. I am not going to do any more trims until the end of the year. So if you want to go natural, everyone can do it and no need to chop all the hair off. My hair still looks great by normal standards, I just have to get the dryness under control. I have been putting some carols daughter oil in it daily which is really helping to. I also want to try some half wigs and wearing my regular hair in braids. I will keep you posted on my growth project.

Hi - I have been natural since 2004. I started my locs with braids in 2004 and I have really been enjoying the journey. Come see how my hair grows out through the years on my YouTube channel. Stay blessed!!
