in Blended Beauty,Product Reviews

I posted a few days ago about finally trying out the Blend Beauty line. I tried it and am ready to share my results. I’m doing this a little different than my usual product review format.

This is going to be kind of a three in one post so here we go!

Here are the results. My hair is still damp is some parts at the roots, but probably 90 percent dry:

How did I use these?

I cowashed with the Blended Beauty Curl Cleansing Conditioner.

Ingredients: Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate, Aqua (enriched with/avec Aloe Barbadensis), Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Capryl Isostearate, Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Behenoyl PG-Trimonium Chloride, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetyl Alcohol (and) Butylene Glycol, Perfume, Preservative [Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol and Sorbic Acid], Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein (and) Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein (and) Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Silk Powder, Menthol.

Price: 19.00 (wow did I really spend 19.00 on a conditioner?Where is my suave?)

I haven’t shampooed or used castile soap in a long time when I used this so I was interested in how clean it was going to get my hair.  I have to say, it works well. It has decent slip, my hair didn’t feel stripped at all after using it, and I was able to detangle well with it.  After rinsing it out, my hair felt moisturized, but not overly oily as can happen with frequent cowashing.

In general, I liked it. I even used it the next day. I don’t think it’s a good idea to use this everyday though. My hair did feel a little bit drier after the second application. But I think it would be good everynow and again for cowashers who don’t want to poo.

Will I be buying this again? I think not. I’ll stick to my castile soap, I believe.

After washing with the conditioner, I applied the Blended Beauty Curl Styling Butter.

Ingredients: Aqua (enriched with/avec Aloe Barbadensis and Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile)), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetyl Alcohol (and) Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, Capryl Isostearate, Soy Lecithin, Perfume, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Preservative [Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol and Sorbic Acid], Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Silk Powder.

Price: 19.00

From the direction section of the BB website:

“This butter will moisturize, defrizz and give you definition, with soft hold all at the same time. For extra defrizzing and definition, use a little pudding on top.”

This stuff is super rich feeling and just glides right on. I can’t say that I like the smell, but it didn’t linger too much after my hair was dry. Very moisturizing, true, but defrizzing? For me? Um, no. This pretty much felt like I was just putting in a leave in conditioner. I can’t say I got any hold. Frizz was everywhere. The Blended Beauty Frizz Pudding on top really didn’t make a difference that I could see.

Ingredients: Aqua (enriched with/enrichi avec Aloe Barbadensis and Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile)), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Capryl Isostearate, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Soy Lecithin, Perfume, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Preservative [Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol and Sorbic Acid], Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Silk Powder.

Now, that being said: I liked the results. My hair was moisturized, relatively soft (not the softest I’ve felt it though), and it formed one of the roundest afros I’ve ever had.

Am I willing to spend 19 bucks on each of these products or even one of these products for these results? No ma’am. I can get my hair to feel and look the same (minus the roundness) with a good leave in conditioner.

A lot of ladies love these products, but perhaps those with a less frizzier hair type than myself. I’ll use these products up the next time I feel like doing a soft fro, since I did like the outcome, but I won’t be reordering.

Am I off my BB kick for good? Nope, there are two more products I want to try from this line, though it will have to wait until my pocket book has replenished. They are the Silk Shake and Straight Pearl.

I purchased these from CurlMart but they can be purchased directly from BB.

I emailed the folks at BB about how I’d heard that their products didn’t get along well with other products and asking if it were true and why that was. I was received a swift reply and here’s an excerpt from that email.

Stacey, Blended Beauty:

Our products are positively charged and many products are negatively charged. Hair has a negative charge naturally so a product that is positively charged will cling to the hair and calm the hair, creating better definition of curls. There was a small article about this in our latest newsletter.

And this from the newsletter:

Spring Frizzies
Why is my hair frizzy?
Why does your hair get frizzy, anyway? There are many causes for this dilemma. Damaged hair strands and static, is a major cause. Many women damage their hair by rough brushing or combing, harsh shampoos, high heats with items such as blow dryers, hair straighteners and other heating tools. Also chemical processing is a major negative factor in keeping your hair healthy and smooth. Static can also be caused by shampoos. Both hair protein and shampoos contain negative charges, repelling each other, which can lead to frizz. There are also environmental factors including UV rays, impurities in water and general humidity. In order to fight the battle of the frizz, there are several ways to succeed. First, soft water has fewer impurities and leaves the hair smoother after washing. Also using a shampoo that has a positive charge, such as Blended Beauty’s shampoos, cause the hair to relax and hug each other, creating more definition. Blended Beauty’s leave-in products seal the cuticle and actually work with the humidity to moisturize your hair, rather than frizz it up! So welcome spring and all it brings!

Thanks for the response, BB. I really doubt anything will rid my hair of frizz completely, as it’s just the nature of my hair, but I’m still looking forward to the results.
