Because of all the hype it was getting on the hair boards, I decided to place an order to Butters N Bars. Honestly, I don’t often place online orders anymore as I receive a lot of products to review from various companies. I also have a ton of products I need to go through that are in my stash.
Therefore, it was a treat to order something and then anxiously wait for it to come in the mail. Just like old (PJ) times!
Anyway, Butters N Bars seemed right up my alley. Their products pretty much consist of shea butter as a major ingredient and I lurve me some shea butter! In other words, if you don’t like shea butter, you probably won’t like these products.
You can purchase these directly from the site or from Curlmart. I must admit that the prices are very nice considering that the company claims use only raw, unrefined shea butter.
You may have already read my review on their Butter and Bars Conditioning Hair Masque. However, it was not the first of their products that I’ve tried.
Grow My Hair Butter

Price: $7.99 4 oz
Ingredients: Raw African Shea Butter, Mango Butter,Extra Virgin Coconut and Babassu Oils, Organic Palm Fruit Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Peppermint Oil, and Rosemary Oil
Review: I was sent their Grow My Hair Butter to try out a few months ago (I purchased the other products in this review, FYI). I was pregnant at the time and since it had rosemary oil in it, I didn’t use it right away. I finally used it after giving birth on both my scalp and my hair.
It was nice. The rosemary and peppermint oils lend a tingling sensation when used on the scalp. The consistency was fairly smooth with a tiny amount of graininess (I’m pretty sure it melted in transit).
Did it grow my hair? Well now, ya’ll know I don’t really believe in growth aids, but rosemary oil and peppermint oil are both said to stimulate hair growth. So if you subscribe to those theories then you might be interested.
I will say that it did soothe my itchy scalp and softened my hair. It felt mostly like shea butter and reminded me a lot of early concoctions I would often whip up. In other words, this could easily be reproduced at home with the right ingredients. However, if you’re too lazy busy to do it yourself, this might be for you.
Extra Conditioning Butter

Price: $7.99 4 0z
Ingredients: Raw African Shea Butter, Organic Coconut Oil, Sweet
Almond Oil, Olive Oil and Raw Honey(may contain bits of propolis
from the Raw Honey)
Review: Ooh I liked this. Again, it’s something you could probably make at home but it’s still pretty nice.
Don’t let the picture fool you: It’s not creamy at all at room temperature. It looks like it’s been whipped but it’s pretty firm like regular shea butter, albeit much smoother. It easily melted in my hands before I applied it to my hair and took awhile to sink in. But it left me with some nice, moisturized braids/braid out.
Braids for braidout. It took awhile for the product to sink in, like most shea butter heavy products do for my hair

Triple Butter Sheer Color Lip Balm

Price: $3.99
Ingredients: Unrefined Shea, Cocoa, and Mango Butters; Pure Lanolin, Mineral Oxide and/or Mica Powder; and Vitamin E
Review: OK, these are the bomb. Yes, I said ‘the bomb’, don’t judge me.
I’m not big into makeup. I mean, I wear it but it’s not my passion like hair. I do like to pick more natural options for my makeup choices. These little beauties are wonderful. You can choose from 10 different colors.
The consistency is firm and whipped; it’s pretty easy to apply unless the container has been in the cold. Best of all, it only takes a dab or two for me to get the desired effect.
I ordered 3 (you can get 3 for $9.99) of these and one had a slightly runny consistency which I am assuming is unintentional. Perhaps it came from a bad batch, I don’t know. I still can use it however, I just have to be careful.
The balms’ lip color is not long lasting. I usually have to reapply twice in one day. While I’m wearing the balm, my lips feel great. However, that too is not particularly long lasting (for me) once it wears away. In spite of those two flaws, I still love these, even moreso when I look at the ingredient list.
Organic Green Tea and Aloe Toner
Price: $5.99 4 oz
Ingredients: Organic Aloe Barbadensis Juice(aloe vera), Organic Lemon
Juice,Green Tea Extract
Review: Well, I just outright didn’t like this stuff. I guess my pores are not that huge so maybe I didn’t experience the full benefit.
First, I have to hold my breath when I spritz it because I don’t really like the smell. It’s got aloe vera gel in it and though I love the benefits of that ingredient, I have never been a big fan of the smell. So there it is,spritzed right in my face.
My face felt a little sticky at first after using it but that feeling went away. I don’t know, I suppose it was okay. I just didn’t feel a phenomenal difference in my face.
In conclusion…
I will be ordering from these folks again. Next I’d like to try out the natural shampoos and face masques.
