Kinky Curly

Valerie commented under my KCCC review:

Hey everyone; I saw this girl’s hair with the KCCC and I loved it, so I decided to use it… well tomorrow morning before going to church. Wish me luck; I’ll let you know the result. I will be washing with Henna shampoo (I use the color for my hair); KCCC Knot today and the curly. I have really tight natural curls (pure African, which I love) so we’ll see how it comes out.

and then…

Ok so I did it this morning, took me about half hour to apply. It went pretty well. I realize that I have not been taking care of my hair as I should which is why it’s not growing as fast as I had hoped. The curls are not as lose as I thought it will be, but then again I have pretty thick hair. I finished around 10:30am and it is 10:55pm and not all my hair is dry. I’m hoping that it will not be messed up when I sleep on it tonight.

Your blog has some great information and tips. I was planning on braiding again, but I’ll see if I can do twist and make sure I moisturize this time. My twists are always bone dry by the third day. I try to oil my hair, but that doesn’t help. I’ll definitely try some of your advice.

Val your hair looks cute, I’m glad you liked the KCCC. Thanks for sharing your results with us. Work on those twists, I’m sure you can find a good routine that will make you happy. Try spritzing instead of oiling, or oiling after moisturizing. You can email me any questions you have!

Personal Review:

Another wonderful product from Kinky Curly. This conditioner provides a good deal of moisture and reduction in frizzies, though it is not the most moisturizing I’ve ever used. Works well under KCCC. I really like the scent as well.

Although it’s possible to get similar results with other creamy leave ins, I will sometimes get a small amount of white residue when I use something besides knot today.

Will I buy this again? Probably. I like the results it gets with KCCC, however I prefer a leave in that I can buy locally. I may buy this here occasionally, though not religiously. Also, the price is a bit offsetting.

Review:

This is a very a good product for someone who is looking to get away from chemical and silicone laden products. It gives great curl definition and a soft hold. However, bad results can happen if too much is used. I can not say this loud enough: A little goes a looong way.

I think people who have a finer hair type may find this true more than others. I have to use a lot less of this on the front of my hair, where the hair is finer and a different texture, than the back. The back can take a lot more than the front and stays soft. If I put the same distribution in the front, I typically end up with a bit of the crunchies. I typically use this with a leave in conditioner underneath. The instructions recommend using Knot Today, also a good buy, underneath it. However, several other creamy conditioners seem to work just as well. You do want to avoid any oil based conditioners though. KCCC does not like oil.

KCCC is primarily a gel, but it doesn’t leave my hair feeling as dry as gel usually does.

The smell is pleasant enough, though it may be a little too sweet for some people. And the stickiness maybe also be an issue for some, especially if you have shoulder length hair. My nape hair has started leaving a bit of sticky residue on my neck at times.

KCCC also gives a lovely shine, something I find lacking from other “moisturizing” gels. Do I consider this to be a moisturizer? No. Please don’t try to rely on this for moisture. A good moisturizing leave in such as Knot Today or Giovanni Direct Leave In work well with this and improve the results.

I do not ever just put this directly on my hair without a leave in.

Will I buy this product again? Yes! It’s wonderful and it’s one of my staples.
