I’ve been wearing my hair flat ironed for the past 2 weeks. Needless to say, it’s time to wash. However, because I was so tired last night, I decided to do a braid out to make my hair last a little longer. I used Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream and braided medium sized sections. I was really pleased with the results.

Please no comment on my makeup. I know I look like Casper the Friendly Natural Haired Ghost. That’s what I get for letting the saleslady choose my new powder.

I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day.  We are safe and happy but not far from Tropical Storm Lee, so we have been  getting a ton of rain all weekend. It was my son’s birthday weekend and he got a new bike. Of course, he wanted to ride this bike outside.

Luckily, my in laws have a large covered area that he was able to ride under. Unfortunately, the rain and wind still managed to attack my hair! I’d just taken my twists out (yes, the ones that have been in forever!). I could feel that it was going to be a detangling nightmare as some of the back twists started locing at the roots, but decided to wear the twistout for one or two days…then this happened!

I’m kidding really, it looks kind of cute, just not as defined. I was just amazed at how fast it happened. My hair is usually pretty resistant to humidity and rain but the wind was the killer.

My main complaints are (1) after I slept on it, it was REALLY jacked and (2) I can totally see this being a bad wash day tonight.

Since I always like for my readers to see the good and the bad of my hair, here’s my hair today. IT IS HORRIBLE.

You have been warned.

I used moisturizer, peanut oil, a rat tail, a wide tooth, and rubber bands to accomplish this style. Using my sisters real natural hair, I cornrowed half her head, then did simple two strand twists on the side. She got SOOOOOO many compliments on this style. A cute style that’s a bit out of the ordinary. Enjoy

This is the style I wore to a 50 year anniversary wedding recently. I am working on a little tutorial to show how I did this.

And in case you were wondering: Yes, buns are taking over the world!. Power to the bun!

Of course, I’ve been in my precious twists the last few weeks.  I’ve worn them in a bun like this.

Two days ago I took my twists out and have been wearing my hair down some for a change. I have been re-moisturizing with KBB’s Ambrosia which I have never tried before (full review incoming once I’ve tried it out fully). I like it so far though.

I will probably wear my twist out down one more day and then back to buns! I do feel like buns are helping my hair retain a bit more length and I’m also noticing less split ends. I will do an official length check in about a month or so.

Thanks to all of the ladies who have been contributing pictures to the 101 Twisted Styles. I’ve added 2 more of my own.

The first one is my hair french braided (sort of!) and I tucked the tail of the braid back under into the braid and pinned it.

The second is a braidout on the twists. This style is great for making your twists look fuller if you have a problem with your twists feeling too flat or thin. I did these when my twists started looking a little old and frizzy. It gave them new life!

To do this, I spritzed my hair to lightly moisten my twists and then put them in several big braids. After a few hours, I undid the braids and, voila!, braidout.

So it’s been about 3 and a half weeks since I put the twists in and I took them out last night. I thought about just retwisting a few around the edges and going another week but decided I really needed to wash my hair.

Now I can’t decide what I’d like to do with my hair. I’m going to start swimming again soon as my first triathlon of the year is in the middle of May and I need to get ready! That means twists on wet hair!

But I really wanted to tinker around with rollersetting.

Hmm, decisions, decisions…

I put in some small twists on dry hair. I really wanted to go smaller but time was an issue. This took about 8 hours to complete, perhaps longer. I am going to keep these in at least 4 weeks. I did some twists around this time last year and I am pleased with the growth. If you scroll down there are some comparison pictures between this year and last year.

After I banded my hair, I finger parted and twisted my hair with Darcy’s Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla Cream. (Review and twisting video forthcoming soon )

Continuing my new healthy hair habit of wearing my hair up to protect my ends, I decided to try the Souther Tease Bun. I remember seeing this style when I had about 5 inches of hair. Needless to say, that wasn’t enough for me to do the style.

The creator of the video that I got this style from has a curly and straight tutorial. I did things a little differently in that mine is done while my hair is in a twistout. I also did not use  a hair stick, but my flexi 8.

It’s fun and simple…best of all, it just took a few seconds. I did have a bit of trouble pulling my hair all back (shrinkage is a motha!) but surprisingly it didn’t feel too tight.

I plan to try this on twists done on dry hair to add to the 101 Twisted Styles.
