Hi, I’m new to transitioning. I made my decision Dec. 4th 2009 not to get retouched. I’m currently trying products to help with my dry hair. I currently have just been frenchbraiding my hair after washing and wearing wigs to work. I am about to turn 52 and I work as a nurse. I wrestled with the decision to go natural for so long. I kept thinking about all the length of time I have been putting chemicals on my hair, possibly for over 30 years. Thats just too long. I came across you site while reviewing kinky curly products. I have a couple of questions. What is oil rinsing? Do you state your date of transitioning from the time you last had a touch up or fromwhen you were suppose to get your touch up? I love your site. I’ve been clued to the computer for about 3 hours just reading. Thanks so much for taking the time to inform and enlighten. I’m also trying to get use to blogs and etc. Thanks again for all your info.
Shirley, I have a post on oil rinsing here:

The day I BC’d in April 08 was when I count myself as being fully natural. I start the date of transition when I got my last perm.
Thanks for the info, your hair looks so healthy and beautiful. I can’t wait til I’m at that point. At what point would you say you started to see your curl pattern?
Thanks for you web site. I’ve been natural for 1 1/2 and love it. I do miss having straight hair at times and just simply flat iron it. I’m surprised how long it stays straight. Right now it’s winter time in Chicago, so I don’t have to worry about humidty. I’m going to cruz your site for more information. I’m struggling with dryness and have been using Carol’s Daughter, but it’s very expensive. Do you have any insight to the Kinky Kurl hair product? Your hair looks georgous and very healthy.
Mo, do you mean Kinky Curly? I’ve reviewed several of their products. Check out my reviews. Thanks for reading!
Shirley, my texture was always there. It was enhanced by moisture and styling techniques.
is there a way to go natural without the bc
@ NIA. I am new to transitioning too and I have been looking at plenty of youtube videos, this website constantly, and other websites for natural hair. I have permed my hair about 2 months ago, I wear alot of wigs and half wigs. So I decided to go natural. A perm never takes too good in my hair so it’s never strait, just softer with a little strait. N E way, I don’t want to do the BC(Big Chop) so I decided to try bantu knots. My roots are about an 1/2 inch in new growth. You can still see the permed ends when I wash my hair. So I am going to rock Bandu Knots. It makes my hair look more natural and I will continue to clip my ends as the months go by to let the perm grow out. I know this is alot, but I have two questions. 1st quest is I want to dye my top half of my hair, so Do anybody have any good suggestions to a good dye for my hair. I just want it a lighter brown, maybe a golden brown, not too bright. I don’t want to dry my hair too bad with the bleaching. 2nd quest, is it better to use a thick moisturizer(w/o the pertroleum and mineral oil) or an oil with leave in conditioner. I am experiencing so I will find which works best for my hair, but I am opting for a thicker creme pudding, cause it looks like it will make it more moisturized with the dyed hair. I will post a pic of my first bantu knots and how I had it styled. Please add suggestions(the pros and cons) to help me on my journey. My husband said it looked gorgeous because it was my hair and not a wig or big curly half wig. He loves the big curly half wig cause it looks natural too, but I want to heal my hair now and watch it sprout.
more natural hairstyles please
i’ve tried the shea butter and unfortunately my hair doesn’t like it, although it’s great on my skin. i was just wondering what you think about using pure cocoa butter instead?

starlet, no harm in trying.
Great video! i’m learning more and more about natural hair styles. What’s the difference between banding and just using flexi rods?
